Weekend Wonders

Happy Sunday! Do you ever wonder sometimes why certain things happen? Or why you meet certain people in your life? I do. I can get super pedantic overanalyzing. For example, why did I put my box of TJ's Cookie Butter Cookies in my freezer? Or how about, why did I randomly bump into that person who would compliment me on my dress on the subway? Of course, there are the good and the bad to these situations. How do I quote or insert applicable idea from Nietzsche here... although probably would make zero sense - point being, I'm trying to be philosophical. This thinking can drive me nuts, but once I get past that wonderment, I realize that these little things happen for a reason, whether I like them or not. Being a glass half-full kind of person, my view is that certain things happen and certain people come into your life for reasons that at the time were right, despite not seeming so initially, or otherwise. Fate oddly works that way. :)

NOW ONTO THE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE. BECAUSE THAT WAS A HEAVY THE-EURO-VACAY-I-NEVER-WENT-ON-BUT-AM-ALWAYS-MENTALLY-PREPARING-FOR LUGGAGE SET THAT I JUST DROPPED OFF. I GOT FINED AN OBSCENE AMOUNT AND RECEIVED JUDGMENTAL GLARES FOR EXCESSIVE BAGGAGE WEIGHT. BY THE WAY, I AM JUDGING YOU FOR JUDGING ME. ANYWAY, LET ME SHARE OTHER WONDERS. Caps lock for dramatized effect because... DRAMA LLAMA AIN'T GOT NO TIME FOR REST. I, can you please be normal for one second? Please? Pretty please. With a cherry on top.

1) Trader Joe's French Vanilla Ice Cream Super Premium. No less or more of a string of words, once spoken aloud, make me more joyous right now. Oui, j'aime beaucoup manger de la glace. My love for ice cream stems allll the way back to, welp, my senior year of college. So, last year. I have always had a major sweet tooth, but I never really felt so inclined to gravitate towards ice cream once my deep-seated dessert cravings set in. My favorite desserts were ooey gooey brownies, red velvet anything, creme brûlée, and anything custardy. BUT, life changed for the better when I bought a pint of Ben & Jerry's during the fall semester of my senior year. Gosh, I ended up stocking pints of Ben & Jerry's in my freezer whenever they went on sale at the Target across the street. I would also buy pints from the little convenience store below my dorm building. Excessive? Psh, no. Justification at the time: long day of classes, workouts, practice, rehab, yadayada... I totally deserve the >1000 calories of dairy/sugar! It worked out well. Stress begone. I'm sure my roomies thought I was a Ben & Jerry's addict. While they had their ice cream stocked up, I think mine surpassed the normality of college-girl's-ice-cream-stash; at one point I think I had six pints in a corner. Sorry for the freezer space abandonment, bags of frozen veggies... So there goes, my love for ice cream stemmed from my college days. Now, aside from the bag of chicken I have in my freezer, I have my quart (yes, quart!) of TJ's French Vanilla Ice Cream Super Premium. It is so yummy. Hop on that wagon if you haven't already because I'm telling ya, it's a game changer. And if you don't believe me, you should buy it because it says "Super Premium" on the labeling, which means it's super premium. The real good stuff.

2) I can run! As I mentioned in passing in a previous post, I injured my knee a while back. You  have no clue the annoyance it caused me when I couldn't move as much as I wanted to. I slowly built up from minimized movements/bed rest to short walks to longer walks to jogs to runs. I can run up to four miles now without my knee hurting! Yay. Well, today the aching set in so I had to sporadically walk because the pressure in my knee was increasing, but hey, progress! I am so happy and love running. Fun fact: in college I hated running. And that's an understatement. Like, I got the most pushups during fitness testing, but when it came to the timed mile run, it was my worst nightmare. I would spend weeks on end dreading that day of practice. But now, I find that running is refreshing and a great way to clear my mind. Also, who wouldn't love gorgeous city and waterfront views in the morning? I am an early morning jogger, and always feel energized when I return to my apartment. Plus, if I keep eating ice cream, I will need to keep exercising so that I don't balloon out. While I'm now an avid runner and don't have recurring nightmares from it, I wouldn't characterize myself as a fast distance runner... I just hope to be able to get more miles in without injury! I'm excited!

3) In West Philadelphia, born and raised... (Hi, Fresh Prince! :p) I am going to Philly today to hang with my baby sister. She's going on an Asia summer trip next week; first to Malaysia, then to Shanghai. I am so jealous! I'm happy I'll get to catch her before she leaves though. We rarely see each other so it's nice to get together. We'll explore the city, eat yummy food, and then she'll come to my side of town for some fun. Sister bonding time is the best! She visited me in Boston a few times and whew, we ate tons of food. Without listing every restaurant we went gluttonous for, here are some we have been to and enjoyed: Abe & Louie's (not really a steak person, but fan of lobster savannah/lobster casserole/risotto/sea bass or something like that), Atlantic Fish (seafood, risotto, forgot what else we ordered but it was yummy), Barcelona Wine Bar (tapas, I think Toro is good for tapas, too), Figs (various pizza, calamari pizza), Sorellina (pasta, lots of it). And I'm sure others that I can't remember at the top of my head. I normally don't go out to eat and prefer to stay in and cook, but when I do, it is lots of fun to try different places. I'm looking forward to where we will go these two days! I already Yelped quite a few restaurants and snack locations, but no definitive selection has been made. All I know is that we won't be holding back on the deliciousness. The weather is supposed to be gloomy, maybe even rainy, but I'm sure we'll still enjoy the visit. Outfit-wise, I am probably going to still wear a dress/heels (what's new, haha) and bring my favorite leather jacket.

xo, I

p.s. Happy Mother's Day to all of the incredible mothers in our universe. I, for one, know that without my mother's strength, wisdom, and love to support and guide me, I wouldn't be where and who I am today. My gratitude extends far beyond what I can possibly verbally express or materialistically show right now. Thank you, Mom! I love you.
